Littering Quiet Cows

Cows settled in the barn, it’s a calming thought.

There’s something lovely about the sound of the straw, the curiosity of cows, and the worn wooden handle of a pitchfork*.

When we started filming at the farm back in 2018, I was surprised to enjoy one of the simplest jobs imaginable.

Littering the cows.

Mum always laughed that it’s good I enjoyed it, because it’s unrelenting on our farm during the Winter. When the land is given a rest, and the cows are housed in the barns; you have to make their bed… because they tend to ruin it on a daily basis.

So that’s what this weeks Calming Farming video is about. Making the bed.

We also filmed a new episode of our monthly podcast (coming soon), and there should be a few more videos coming out over the next few weeks – Josh and I captured a lot when we went to visit earlier in the week.

*Not applicable to new pitchforks, one that’s lasted at least 1 generation.

I hope you’re having a lovely Sunday and if you’re feeling inspired – please share this moment with others.

If you have anything to add, then we’d love to hear from you in the comments!

Lots of love from Ru + the farm.
